Looking Back, Moving Forward—ERISA at 50

The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) was enacted in 1974—50 years ago. To mark this anniversary, the American Academy of Actuaries is exploring ERISA’s present and the future of retirement through a series of events and issue papers.

Through this dynamic series, the Academy and special guest speakers—experts in the field of retirement—will look at ERISA’s beginnings, its evolution, and what the future holds. We’ll examine the future of workplace retirement plans and discuss options to increase retirement security. We’ll also explore at the history of ERISA as it applies to health—both the original law, as well as the numerous amendments that impact health rules.
