WHY: As summer winds down, the Academy’s annual meeting, Envision Tomorrow, is rapidly approaching. We are excited for all of our speakers and sessions and wanted to share life-focused sessions: “Financial Security: Annuities & Long-Term Care” and “Solvency Regulation: How Did We Get Here?”
At the first session, Oct. 15 at 1:30 p.m. EDT, speakers will discuss how certain life products are used by the middle class to provide financial security now and for future generations. Speakers will cover a broad range of perspectives including the consumer, regulator, practitioner, industry, and more. The speakers for this session include Brenda J. Cude, a consumer representative to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) since 1994, and Jim Szostek, the vice president & deputy, retirement security, with the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI). This panel will offer a fresh perspective of analyzing life and annuity products through the lens of intergenerational wealth.
The second session, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. EDT, features speakers who will discuss how regulation related to the solvency of life insurance companies has evolved and has been modernized in recent history. Panelists will discuss recent trends, current developments, and what’s on the horizon related to solvency regulation. Speakers include Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Nathan Houdek; Steve Smith, chair of the LPC’s C1 Subcommittee; and Brian Bayerle, chief life actuary for the ACLI. This session will be a great opportunity to hear a wide range of perspectives on how solvency regulation has modernized over the past few decades. The Academy is especially excited to host Commissioner Houdek and hear his perspectives, given his participation in various NAIC committees, work groups, and task forces.
